When it is time to harvest and dry out the tea leaves, ones destined to be green tea powder are laid out flat to dry until crumbly. These are called Tencha and are the prerequisite for the perfect green tea powder known as matcha. To get the right texture of the green tea powder known as matcha, the crumbly tea leaves need to be ground for around half and hour.

Factors That Affect Green Tea Powder

There are many factors that can ultimately affect and alter the taste of the green tea powder beverage. These factors include which part of the tea plant the leaves are from, exposure to oxygen, the process of stone grinding the green tea powder and where the tea leaves were laid out tot dry. All these factors have a big say on the taste of the green tea powder. Many producers that are based outside of Japan and have commercialized methods of preparing the powder may have left out the quality of the tea in pursuit of quantity.

There are several Japanese tea houses and schools that teach how to prepare tea from green tea powder and not from ordinary tea leaves. These school and institutions have become a tradition upon themselves in trying to create a perfect cup of tea.
